Dr. Firlik is an expert in dental implants and a great resource for you if you are interested in implants.
Dental implants are a permanent and appealing solution to replace missing or extracted teeth. They are better than other alternatives, such as bridges, because no additional teeth need to be altered to place the implant. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root (typically made of titanium) that is placed in your upper or lower arch bone to anchor a crown. If you’ve recently lost a tooth, your first call should be to our office. Dr, Firlik will be able to determine whether you’re a candidate for a dental implant. She helped many patients with dental implants and crowns , and you will be able to smile with confidence if she places a dental implant and crown for you.
Dental Implant Process
The entire implant process is performed over the course of a few months. The first part of the process is to install the implant itself, a titanium screw placed into healthy bone of your upper or lower arch.
In order to insert the implant, a tiny incision is made in the gum. After the implant is placed, the gums are sutured. In many cases, multiple implants can be placed at once. Then, the implant must be allowed approximately 3-6 months to heal. During this time, the jaw bone will form around the implant in a process called osseointegration. During this healing time you can have a temporary crown installed so that you can eat normally and maintain an appealing esthetic appearance.
After the implant has healed, an implant abutment can be placed on the implant to serve as the base for the placement of a crown over the implant. To do this, an impression of the abutment is taken and used to create your permanent crown at a dental lab. After the crown is made, Dr. Firlik will place the crown.
You can expect a short period of time becoming comfortable with the presence of an implant and crown. After that, it will feel like one of your natural teeth.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Unlike other tooth replacement options, dental implants prevent further tooth loss caused by bone deterioration.
Your body is able to detect tooth loss and will begin to absorb the minerals from the tooth to use elsewhere. Over time, the bone deterioration contributes to further tooth loss and facial collapse. Because dental implants fuse to your bone, they mimic tooth roots and prevent the deterioration process from occurring. Dental implants are embedded in your jawbone, so you won’t have concern that your teeth will slip while you eat, talk, and smile.
We know that your smile says a lot about your personality and confidence. That is why we offer dental implants to our patients.
We offer single tooth implants, All-on-4 dental implants, and implant supported dentures. Dental implants can support a single crown or, literally, an entire arch of artificial teeth. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
Are you a candidate for dental implants? To qualify for dental implants, the bone in your arches must have sufficient bone density to support the titanium (implant) rods. In some cases, where bone density has been lost, Dr. Firlik might be able to restore the necessary density to your jaw with a bone graft. You also must also be in good oral health and have a strong immune system.
Dr. Firlik is ready to help you restore your smile with the benefits of dental implants.
